After a demon attack destroys their family, she is turned into a demon herself — but she holds onto her human emotions and her bond with her brother, which places her at the center of everything the story explores. The bamboo muzzle she wears to prevent herself from harming anyone became her most immediately recognizable visual almost from the moment the anime launched.
