What Is a Pokemon Mezastar Tag?

Pokemon Mezastar is an arcade game series developed jointly by TAKARATOMY A.R.T.S. and Marvelous, which launched in Japanese game centers in August 2020. It continues a direct lineage from Pokemon Tretta (2012) and Pokemon Ga-Ole (2016), both produced by the same developer for the same venue type.

The tags the series is built around are small, oval plastic discs embossed with “Pokemon” around the rim. Players place them on a dedicated reader inside the arcade cabinet, and each tag carries printed data — type icons, an energy value, and a star rating — that connects directly to gameplay. Obtaining a tag requires playing the machine: the cabinet dispenses tags as play rewards. This sets them apart from shokugan (food toys sold through convenience stores and toy shops) and gashapon (capsule-machine figures), which reach buyers through ordinary retail channels. Beyond gameplay, the holographic and metallic finishes applied to Mezastar tags make them natural display pieces.

Keldeo and Its Resolute Form

Keldeo is National Pokedex entry 647, a Mythical Water- and Fighting-type Pokemon first introduced in Pokemon Black & White (Nintendo DS, 2010). The Mythical classification carries a specific meaning in the franchise: Keldeo has never been available through standard in-game play and has historically been distributed only through limited special events, giving it a different standing from Legendary Pokemon that players can encounter and catch directly.

This tag depicts Keldeo in its Resolute Form — kakugo no sugata — in which the shape of its horn changes from the default Ordinary Form. Resolute Form was developed more fully in Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 (2012), the same year Keldeo starred in the theatrical anime film Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice.
