The format is simple: crack open an egg-shaped chocolate shell, retrieve the capsule inside, and assemble the parts into a super-deformed (chibi-proportioned) mini figure of Hitoshi Shinso on a base. The figure depicts him in his Yuei High School uniform — grey jacket, red tie, dark trousers — with his characteristic messy blue-purple hair and half-lidded expression.

Furuta, an Osaka-based confectionery company founded in 1952, launched the Choco Egg brand in 1999 with a set of Japanese wildlife figures that quickly became a cultural phenomenon. The line has since expanded into anime and game licenses, covering titles from Kamen Rider and One Piece to Demon Slayer and multiple waves of My Hero Academia characters. As a shokugan product, Choco Egg is sold through convenience stores, supermarkets, and candy shops rather than through coin-operated capsule machines — and in the original format, figures are packed randomly, so you do not know which character you will get until the shell is open.

His Quirk — Brainwashing — lets him take full control of anyone who verbally responds to him. He appears prominently from the Season 2 sports festival arc onward, and his match against protagonist Midoriya left a lasting impression: the Quirk is quietly unsettling, his backstory is sympathetic, and his cool, sardonic, perpetually tired demeanor sets him apart from the series’ more openly energetic cast. Though a supporting character, Shinso has placed high in official popularity polls and has a particularly active following in North American fan communities.

Furuta distributes Choco Egg through domestic Japanese retail channels, with essentially no official distribution outside Japan. For international collectors, this Shinso figure is accessible only through personal imports or cross-border platforms — genuinely Japan-exclusive merchandise. The shokugan format itself carries cultural weight beyond the figure inside: the experience of cracking the chocolate shell, the randomized reveal, and the assembly of a small deformed figure are part of a collecting tradition dating to the 1980s that is distinctly Japanese in origin.

My Hero Academia holds one of the broadest international fan followings of any manga of its era, and Shinso specifically draws consistent engagement in English-speaking communities.
